Minister Tran Tuan Anh attended The Indo-Pacific Business Forum in Bangkok, Thailand
More than 1000 business and government leaders from the U.S. and the Indo-Pacific region met in Bangkok, Thailand on November 4 for the Indo-Pacific Business Forum. The meeting was to promote the value of high-standard investment, transparency, rule of law, and private-sector-led economic development.
According to Minister of Ministry and Trade of Viet Nam Tran Tuan Anh, Viet Nam has been working very closely with the US counterparts so far, especially in the field of electricity and power. On this occasion he was very happy to share that Vietnamsese Prime Minister had recently approved an investment of about 1.7 billion US Dollars power project using imported LNG under the BOT contract, of which AES Corporation was the sole investor, as well as a co-investor of about 1.4 billion US Dollars LNG terminal project.
The implementation of the power project and the LNG terminal project of AES in Viet Nam will not only enhance significantly energy security of Viet Nam but could also substantially contribute to the bilateral trade and investment relationship between the two countries. In addition, given that the US is a large exporter of LNG and a potential supplier for customers of the LNG terminal projects, Minister Trần Tuan Anh hope that the two projects would pave the wave to enhance the long term economic ties that brings benefits to both countries. He does expect that this LNG project could help achieve an export value of over 2 billion US Dollars annually.
On this occasion Minister Tran Tuan Anh was very pleased to announce that Viet Nam was ready to sign an MOU with the AES Corporation to develop this power project during the visit of Secretary Ross to Viet Nam later this week, in the witness of Viet Nam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, so that both sides could start to negotiate the project agreement. "Our Ministry and the AES Corporation are very much looking forward to that event and we are also very glad in welcoming you to Hanoi". Minister Truan Tuan Anh said
