On January 14 in Hanoi, a delegation from the Central Commission for Policy and Strategy, together with the Standing Board of the Steering Committee for formulating the project “Strategic solutions to promote double-digit economic growth in the new era - The era of Vietnam’s national resurgence,” in conjunction with the review of Resolution No. 05-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee, held a working session with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

In accordance with regulations on election work and Guidance No. 26/HD-MTTW-BTT dated December 14, 2025, issued by the Standing Committee of The Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on introducing candidates for the 16th National Assembly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on January 15, 2026 organized conferences under the prescribed procedure to introduce personnel to run for deputies of the 16th National Assembly, term 2026 - 2031.

On January 12 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Institute of Strategy and Policy for Industry and Trade organized a conference to review its 2025 work and deploy tasks for 2026.

On the afternoon of January 9, 2026, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a meeting of its Steering Committee on the development of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and Project 06. The meeting was chaired by Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung, Head of the Steering Committee.

Following the merger of two colleges in Thai Nguyen province, the newly established institution will be named the College of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

On January 9, the Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment Agency (ISEA) held a conference to review its 2025 performance and deploy tasks for 2026. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai attended and delivered directive remarks at the conference. The event was also attended by representatives of departments and agencies under the Ministry, enterprises, as well as officials, civil servants and employees of ISEA.

On the afternoon of January 5, 2026, the Vietnam Competition Commission (VCC) held a conference to review its performance in 2025 and outline key tasks for 2026. The event was attended and chaired by Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, along with representatives of units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued Notice No. 41/BCT-ĐL, urging faster implementation of key power projects under the adjusted Power Development Plan VIII.

On the afternoon of December 31, 2025, in Hanoi, the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development held a conference to review its work in 2025 and outline tasks for 2026. Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung attended the conference. Also present were Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, leaders of units under the Ministry, and all civil servants and employees of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development.

In 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade identifies seven key focus areas in its administrative reform work plan.

On December 31, 2025, President Donald Trump signed a Proclamation adjusting U.S. import tariff policy on timber, lumber and wood-derived products under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. Accordingly, the United States decided to delay the planned tariff increase on several finished wood products, including upholstered chairs, kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, from January 1, 2026 to January 1, 2027.

After months stranded at Karachi Port, nearly 500 containers of Vietnamese tea have been cleared for re-export, easing a major bottleneck for tea exporters.
