MoIT improves national standards system
The Science and Technology Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is engaged in improving Vietnam’s system of standards and technical regulations.
In 2022, its work included verification, review, appraisal and publication of six Vietnamese national standards on blast furnace iron slag, liquefied natural gas and tobacco products.
The MoIT’s Department of Science and Technology plans to complete the product traceability system
So far, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) has announced the application to 11 Vietnamese national standards on testing methods for concentrates and 11 others on paper and paper products. The MoIT also proposed and registered plans to devise Vietnamese national standards in the fields of energy, metallurgy and minerals, with the MoST to develop the National Standardization Strategy until 2030.
The number of Vietnamese national standards in the industry and trade sector totals 6,387 (accounting for about 49 percent of the total standards). Of these, the MoIT requested the MoST to appraise and publish its 18 standards in the fields of minerals, metallurgy, paper and it is going to publish seven standards on tobacco.
The MoIT also collaborated with the Vietnam Standards and Quality Institute to develop six energy efficiency standards for electrical equipment products to serve the MoIT’s state management demand.
It also has issued 66 technical regulations and is evaluating and preparing to issue 13 others; approved operation registration certificates of 36 conformity assessment organizations, including 24 testing organizations, six certification organizations; and six conformity assessment organizations.
Plans call for continued implementation of the project for strengthening and renovating measurement activities to improve competitiveness and international integration of Vietnamese enterprises. Specifically, this includes a review and proposal of support for production areas that need innovation in measurement activities, prioritize tasks on measurement standards and measuring instruments in the industry and trade sector, and support research and application of advanced measurement technologies in production and manufacturing.
In 2023, the department will continue to complete the system of Vietnamese national standards and technical regulations; coordinate with the MoST in appraising and promulgating standards and regulations according to plan; and carry out a project on implementing, applying and managing the product traceability system until 2025 and orientation to 2030 under the management of the industry and trade sector.
In 2023, the MoIT’s Department of Science and Technology will continue to review, survey, evaluate and supplement production and business areas that need innovation in measurement activities to support businesses.
