The Ministry of Industry and Trade holds the launching ceremony and running event to 'publicize ''The nationwide campaign on energy efficiency and the Earth Hour 2026 initiative''

Within the framework of the National Programme on Efficient and Economical Use of Energy for the 2019 - 2030 period, on the morning of March 21, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) held a launching ceremony and running event to promote “All people use energy efficiently and economically and join the Earth Hour Campaign 2026” at the Tay Ho Creative Cultural Space, Tay Ho Ward, Hanoi.

The launching ceremony and running event was attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the National Assembly Committee on Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs; the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; the European Union Delegation to Vietnam; leaders of the local wards in Hanoi… as well as representatives of relevant agencies, units under the MoIT; social organizations, industry associations, and the business community.

With the message “Green Creativity - Green Future,” the running event attracted more than 2,000 participants, including officials, public servants, and employees of the MoIT and related agencies; representatives of social organizations and industry associations; representatives of manufacturing and business enterprises; running enthusiasts; and athletes from several amateur running clubs. The programme also featured programme ambassadors who are public figures, such as footballer Duy Manh, actor Le Hai, and the Tourism and Environment Ambassador - Top 5 Miss Vietnam 2024 Pham Thuy Duong.

In his remarks at the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized that in the context of Vietnam’s economy entering a new stage of rapid and sustainable development, using energy efficiently and economically is not only a technical solution but has become an important driving force to promote production, innovation, cost optimization, and enhance the competitiveness of both enterprises and the economy.

In recent years, the MoIT has led the implementation of multiple programmes and policies to promote energy efficiency, supporting businesses in technological innovation, improving production processes, and enhancing energy use efficiency, thereby making positive contributions to the green transformation of the economy. In addition, the MoIT has promoted the use of clean fuels and biofuels in the transport sector, contributing to diversification of the energy supply.

The launching ceremony and running event promoting “All people use energy efficiently and economically and join the Earth Hour Campaign 2026” is one of the outstanding activities reflecting the community’s spirit of action towards a greener lifestyle and more efficient energy use. This year’s programme not only emphasizes the efficient and economical use of energy but also marks an important step toward proactive innovation in energy use. From technological applications and managerial innovation to changes in consumer behavior, each solution today will contribute to creating more sustainable value for the future.

Following the in-person running event, a series of nationwide programmes will be activated, notably including: the online running event organized through the 84RACE fitness app from March 21 to April 11, expected to attract tens of thousands of professional and amateur athletes across the country; and the online contest “Learn about energy-saving, join the Earth Hour Campaign 2026,” running from March 21 to April 11 on the website https://tietkiemnangluong.com.vn/.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long stressed that challenges related to energy security and fluctuations in the global energy market require urgent enhancement of energy use efficiency across the economy.

Overview of the event. 

In response, the Prime Minister has assigned the MoIT to develop energy-saving scenarios, intensify public communication, promptly launch campaigns on energy saving and the use of green energy to reduce emissions, as well as review conditions to quickly implement the roadmap for transitioning to biofuels.

On behalf of the MoIT, the Deputy Minister called on ministries, sectors, localities, the business community, and the public, including the athletes at today’s event, to continue actively responding and implementing energy-saving solutions in daily activities; accelerate technological innovation, apply advanced energy management solutions, promote energy-efficient production and consumption models in enterprises; encourage energy transition, develop transportation using clean energy; enhance fuel-saving in the transport sector, and promote public transport usage. Through these efforts, Vietnam can build a modern, high-productivity, and sustainable economy.

The running event attracts over 2,000 participants, including officials, public servants, employees of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and representatives from relevant agencies and sectors.   

During the programme, the coordinating units and programme ambassadors participated in activities and delivered messages pledging their commitment to “All people use energy efficiently and economically and join the Earth Hour Campaign 2026”.

The running event promoting "All people use energy efficiently and economically and join the Earth Hour Campaign 2026" was organized in two forms:

Offline: The run took place at the Tay Ho Creative Cultural Space, Tay Ho Ward, Hanoi, over a distance of 3 km.

Online: The online run was conducted via the 84RACE fitness app and Strava nationwide from March 21, 2026, to April 11, 2026.

Since February 2026, the MoIT has issued documents to the People’s Committees of provinces and cities, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and related units to coordinate communication and organise activities to respond to the movement “All people use energy efficiently and economically and join the Earth Hour Campaign 2026,” linked with the goals of green transformation, innovation, and enhancing energy use efficiency.

In Vietnam, the Earth Hour campaign has been implemented since 2009, with active participation from EVN from the early years. Over nearly two decades, EVN has collaborated with relevant agencies and organizations to carry out numerous nationwide activities, contributing to spreading the message of efficient and economical electricity use within the community.
