Setting the vision for digital and green transformation by 2030

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan highlighted the global economic context, which continues to grow driven by services, digital consumption, and innovation. For Vietnam, the digital economy is showing significant improvements and has become a new pillar that enhances productivity, expands markets, and strengthens economic resilience. Retail e-commerce is projected to exceed USD 25 billion, continuing as a major pillar of the Internet economy.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the government has designated 2025 as the year to accelerate the implementation of Resolution No. 57 on digital transformation, with the consistent view that digital transformation is a key driver to develop productive forces and enhance national competitiveness. The Industry and Trade sector has promoted digital transformation across three pillars: digital government, the digital economy within the sector, and data infrastructure. However, 2025 requires the sector to innovate more comprehensively to seize opportunities from dual transformation: digital and green.

In the report “Orientation for Digital Transformation in the Industry and Trade Sector 2026,” Hoang Ninh, Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, stressed that digital transformation is a strategic task linked with green transformation and sustainable development, driving sector-wide restructuring through 2030. The three pillars, digital government, digital economy, and digital society, will be implemented consistently to maximize impact across the sector.

Hoang Ninh, Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, reports at the forum.

The sector has achieved notable results: 224 online public services, a digitization rate of 95.52% for administrative records, over 691,000 documents exchanged through the ASEAN Single Window, serving more than 52,500 businesses. The year 2026 is planned as a breakthrough year with strategies including national e-commerce data standardization, expansion of next-generation smart factories (3.0-4.0), and nationwide rollout of smart energy measurement and management.

Practical perspectives on digital transformation

From a local perspective, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Phuong Duc Commune Le Van Binh shared a different view on digital transformation, not only at the macro level or large enterprises, but also at traditional craft villages.

Through the story of “awakening a hundred trades through digital transformation,” he illustrated how technology helps craft villages gradually access markets, increase product value, and improve management quality.

The shift from manual business models to modern distribution through digital platforms demonstrates that digital transformation is sustainable only when it reaches the grassroots level, where small-scale production and business activities face new demands for innovation and market access.

From the technology business sector, Dang Thuy Trang, Director of External Affairs at Grab Vietnam, noted that digital platforms support local digital economic development, promoting tourism, culture, cuisine, and urban management. Grab has signed cooperation agreements with Hue and Da Nang cities to optimize driver operations and improve business efficiency for merchant partners, aiming to develop smart cities and comprehensive digital transformation.

In the energy sector, a key pillar in the green growth strategy of MoIT, Director of the Institute for Digital Transformation Strategy Le Nguyen Truong Giang emphasized that data and automation are central to operating modern energy systems.

“Advanced technologies such as big data analytics, IoT, and automated control systems optimize energy production and distribution. Key directions include smart grids, real-time energy measurement and management, and expanding energy management systems in industry, transportation, and construction, improving economic efficiency while supporting emission reduction,” Le Truong Giang said.

Within the forum, a roundtable on “Promoting Digital Transformation in the Industry and Trade Sector” provided a space for direct exchange between regulators, experts, and the business community on solutions to promote digital government, digital economy, and smart manufacturing models in the new phase.

The roundtable at the forum is attended by numerous experts in the field.

During the discussion, delegates analyzed increasing demands on businesses as green standards become inevitable, supply chains require greater transparency, and online fraud risks rise with widespread AI adoption. Participants agreed that digital transformation can only deliver substantial results when implemented consistently from central to local levels, with close coordination between businesses and regulators, as well as between technology platforms and practical production and business operations.

The 2025 Digital Transformation Forum for the Industry and Trade sector not only assessed past results but also opened broader discussions on strategic directions for the sector amid dual transformation. This year’s forum is expected to strongly drive the sector’s journey toward digital and green transformation, enhancing public management efficiency, boosting competitiveness, and promoting sustainable development in the coming years.
