Minister Nguyen Hong Dien holds bilateral meeting with Mexico’s Minister of Economy

On October 30, 2025, on the sidelines of the 36th APEC Ministerial Meeting on Foreign Affairs and Economy in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien held a bilateral meeting with Mexico’s Minister of Economy, Mr. Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, to discuss measures aimed at promoting economic, trade, and investment cooperation, as well as strengthening coordination within regional and global cooperation frameworks such as the CPTPP.

Both Ministers reaffirmed the importance of fostering trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Mexico. Over recent years, bilateral trade has recorded robust growth. In 2024 and the first nine months of 2025, two-way trade continued its impressive upward trajectory of over 20 percent. Specifically, total trade volume reached USD 6.4 billion in 2024, up by 21.8 percent, and USD 5.9 billion in the first nine months of 2025, an increase of 24.2 percent. Mexico is currently Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner in Latin America, after Brazil, while Vietnam ranks as Mexico’s eighth-largest trading partner in Asia.

The two Ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in order to sustain the positive outcomes achieved in economic and trade relations while jointly seeking new directions and solutions to remove existing obstacles and create favorable conditions for businesses of both countries to explore opportunities in trade and investment.

Specifically, the two sides agreed to:

Review and actively implement the outcomes of the third meeting of the Vietnam–Mexico Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation (held in September 2021);

Continue organizing business networking activities and facilitating participation in each other’s trade promotion events to advance practical and effective bilateral cooperation;

Enable the business communities to fully capitalize on the benefits of the CPTPP to further expand trade and investment exchanges.

In addition, the Ministers discussed in detail ways to address challenges faced by enterprises operating and investing in both countries. Minister Nguyen Hong Dien requested Mexico’s support in resolving issues encountered by Vietnamese steel exporters. Minister Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon agreed, and both sides concurred on facilitating Vietnamese companies’ access to relevant information and ensuring the protection of their legitimate rights and interests.

The two Ministers also agreed to maintain regular and timely exchanges to address any arising challenges and further strengthen economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Mexico.
