At the high-level meetings, the German side affirmed that it considers Vietnam a key strategic partner and expressed its intention to make full use of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to expand market access and elevate bilateral trade to new heights. Germany also announced that its Bundestag is expected to ratify the EU–Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) in early 2026. Furthermore, the German side expressed its readiness to cooperate with Vietnam in sharing expertise, providing financial training, and supporting the establishment of international financial centres in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
The Vietnamese side expressed its hope that German leaders would use their influence to urge the European Commission to lift the IUU yellow card imposed on Vietnam, thereby facilitating the flow of agro-aquatic products, expanding supply chains, and creating new momentum for economic cooperation in the year marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Notably, during the meeting with Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and Minister Reiche held in-depth discussions and agreed to prioritise trade and investment cooperation. Both sides committed to enhancing collaboration in areas where Vietnam has significant demand and Germany has technological strengths, particularly renewable energy.
They also discussed measures to address obstacles facing PNE Group’s nearshore wind power project in Hon Trau (Gia Lai Province); explored opportunities for cooperation in green hydrogen production and the development of hydrogen hubs in Vietnam; and agreed on several key points in preparation for the third session of the Vietnam–Germany Joint Committee on Economic and Trade Cooperation, scheduled to take place in Hanoi in November 2025.
