Ministry of Industry and Trade hosts week promoting Viet Nam’s distinctive export products in Yunnan, China
As part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s project on “Promoting Vietnamese enterprises’ direct participation in overseas distribution networks through 2030,” the Department of Foreign Market Development, in coordination with the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province, organized the “Week promoting Viet Nam’s distinctive export products in Yunnan, China” in Kunming, Yunnan Province, from August 21 to 24, 2026.
The event was held to implement the approach of accessing the Chinese market on a “regional basis,” supporting Vietnamese enterprises in gaining direct access to overseas distribution networks, strengthening connections with importers and major distribution systems in Yunnan, and gradually expanding the presence of Vietnamese goods in Southwest China.
The opening ceremony of the Week took place on the evening of August 21 in central Kunming, with the participation of representatives from management agencies, industry associations and distribution enterprises from Yunnan Province and Lancang-Mekong countries, along with a large number of local residents.
The Vietnamese goods exhibition featured a wide range of Viet Nam’s flagship export products, including fresh fruits such as pomelos and durians; processed food products such as dried fruit, coffee, braised shrimp paste with pork, bird’s nest products and mung bean cakes; agricultural specialties; and products carrying the Vietnam National Brand.

A notable highlight of this year’s programme was the participation of renowned streamer Hoang Van Khoa (PewPew), who attended the opening ceremony and conducted livestreams from the event and Vietnamese booths. The livestreams attracted more than 2,000 viewers across social media platforms, helping promote Vietnamese products to a broad audience of Chinese consumers while creating an additional online channel for Vietnamese enterprises to connect with customers and potential partners in the local market.
With its large population, diverse consumer demand and strategic position as a gateway linking China with ASEAN, Yunnan is considered a promising market for Vietnamese exports, particularly agricultural products, processed food, consumer goods and light industrial products. However, despite the advantages of geographical proximity and transport connectivity, trade cooperation between Viet Nam and Yunnan has yet to fully realize its potential. This highlights considerable room for expanding cooperation, strengthening business connections and facilitating deeper penetration of Vietnamese goods into the Southwest Chinese market.
As the capital of Yunnan Province, Kunming is not only a major economic, commercial and logistics hub in Southwest China but also serves as a key gateway connecting the region with South Asia and Southeast Asia under the framework of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) cooperation. The decision to hold the Week promoting Viet Nam’s distinctive export products in Yunnan, China, in Kunming therefore carries significance beyond conventional trade promotion. It contributes to the effective implementation of cooperation documents between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, while supporting Vietnamese enterprises in gaining direct access to distribution networks, logistics centers and the region’s modern commercial ecosystem.

Through product displays and promotional activities, business networking and on-the-ground market surveys, Vietnamese enterprises had opportunities not only to seek importers and distribution partners but also to gain a deeper understanding of consumer trends, market requirements and potential cooperation in processing, logistics, supply chain development and green agriculture. These are important factors in enabling Vietnamese goods to gradually enhance their competitiveness, increase value and expand their sustainable presence in the Chinese market.
The successful organization of the Week promoting Viet Nam’s distinctive export products in Yunnan, China, further demonstrates the effectiveness of a trade promotion approach that focuses on individual localities and specific market segments within China. The programme also contributes to enabling Vietnamese goods to participate more deeply in international distribution networks, strengthening regional supply chain linkages and creating fresh momentum for sustainable export growth in the period ahead.
