On the morning of April 14, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan held a working session with a delegation from the US - ASEAN Business Council (USABC), led by Brian McFeeters, former Ambassador and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Council. The meeting was attended by leaders of functional units under the Ministry and more than 50 US enterprises investing and operating in Vietnam.

The meeting took place in the context of the Vietnam - US relationship continuing its strong development, particularly following General Secretary To Lam’s working visit to the US in February 2026, which has created new momentum for economic, trade and investment cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed that economic cooperation remains a key pillar, highly complementary in nature, and directly contributes to supply chain stability and sustainable growth in each country.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized that Vietnam consistently considers the US one of its leading strategic economic and trade partners. Vietnam remains steadfast in maintaining political and social stability, accelerating institutional reforms, and enhancing transparency and predictability in policymaking, thereby fostering a favorable and reliable investment and business environment. At the same time, Vietnam is promoting industrialization in a green and sustainable direction, prioritizing high-tech sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing, while developing synchronized energy, logistics and digital infrastructure.

Representatives of the US business community highly valued Vietnam’s investment potential and business environment, and put forward a range of specific recommendations in areas including energy, high-tech industry, logistics, trade, finance, healthcare, agriculture and consumer goods. Notable proposals included the development of the LNG market, gas-fired power, renewable energy, and a direct power purchase agreement (DPPA) mechanism, as well as the improvement of the policy framework for technology, supply chains and the digital economy.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan acknowledged and highly appreciated the frank and practically valuable opinions from US businesses, stressing that these inputs serve as important references for government agencies in further improving policies and enhancing governance effectiveness and efficiency. The Ministry of Industry and Trade will closely coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to study and address the proposals on the basis of feasibility, harmonized interests and conformity with international practices.
Regarding cooperation orientation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized key priority pillars, including ensuring energy security with a role for LNG and renewable energy; developing high-tech industry and digital infrastructure; promoting e-commerce, logistics and the digital economy; and strengthening cooperation in healthcare, agriculture, standards and market management.

On trade issues, the Deputy Minister said Vietnam is proactively engaging in discussions with the US in a spirit of transparency, cooperation and constructiveness, while calling on the US business community to continue serving as a bridge and to provide objective and positive voices to help strengthen a stable and sustainable cooperation environment.
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan affirmed that the Government of Vietnam regards the US business community as an important, long-term and trusted partner, and is committed to maintaining an open and substantive policy dialogue mechanism, accompanying businesses toward a balanced, sustainable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relationship.
