Ministry of Industry and Trade promotes Vietnam - Hungary educational cooperation in industrial fields
Vietnam and Hungary share many similarities in their cultural and historical traditions. Over more than 75 years of cooperation and development, both countries have recorded significant and remarkable achievements across all fields, with educational and training cooperation making a particularly important contribution. Each year, hundreds of Vietnamese students and postgraduate students receive scholarships to study in Hungary.
A delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, comprising representatives of several universities and colleges under the Ministry and the Vietnam Trade Office in Hungary, holds a workshop with the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
The 2013 educational cooperation agreement between the Governments of Hungary and Vietnam clearly demonstrates the two sides’ commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in education, particularly since the relationship was upgraded to a comprehensive partnership in 2018.
To further promote educational cooperation between the two countries, on July 29, 2026, a delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, comprising representatives of several universities and colleges under the Ministry and the Vietnam Trade Office in Hungary, held a workshop with the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics to advance and concretize cooperation opportunities.
The discussions focused on training in industrial fields, particularly areas in which Hungary has strengths, including engineering, semiconductors, nuclear energy and information technology.
During discussions with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Nguyen Van Thien, PhD, Vice President of Hanoi University of Industry, stressed that the university’s vision is to train an on-site workforce in support of sustainable development. On that basis, he proposed that the Budapest University of Technology and Economics assist in training lecturers for Hanoi University of Industry through short-term or long-term courses.
Sharing this view, Associate Professor, PhD Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said the university hoped to send three to five postgraduate students to study at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics either this year or next year.
The program would be implemented through government scholarships, with support from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the participation of the Vietnamese university in management and assistance, helping ensure that the students return to work at the university after graduation.
The Vietnamese delegation also said that, in preparation for upcoming nuclear power projects for which universities under the Ministry of Industry and Trade have been assigned primary responsibility for training, Vietnam hoped to begin sending students from the Ministry’s universities to Hungary to study nuclear power as early as this year.
The student selection process and related procedures will be discussed in detail by the two sides in the coming period.
At the workshop, Nguyen Quang Hong, Deputy Director of the Department of Personnel and Organization under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and head of the Vietnamese delegation, expressed his hope that universities from both countries would continue holding direct and substantive discussions.
He also called for a shared commitment to implementing lecturer and student exchange activities, particularly the selection and dispatch of lecturers from Vietnamese universities to Hungary for study and professional development.

During a working session with the Tempus Public Foundation, a major organization responsible for managing and funding scholarships for international students studying in Hungary, the Vietnamese delegation proposed that Hungary continue supporting Vietnamese students who are applying for scholarship programs under the agreement between the two Governments.
Universities under the Ministry also requested that the Tempus Public Foundation consider expanding eligibility, particularly for doctoral training programs for university officials and lecturers seeking to pursue doctoral and postdoctoral studies in Hungary, with a focus on several priority fields in which Vietnam is strengthening its training capacity.
