Closing Session of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam

On January 23, the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam convened its closing session after completing its personnel work and electing the new Party Central Committee. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on behalf of the Presidium, chaired the closing session.

Attending the closing session were invited guests including former leaders of the Party and the State, representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; former members of the Party Central Committee from the 4th through the 8th tenures; Vietnamese heroic mothers; prominent intellectuals, artists and writers; respected religious dignitaries; and outstanding young representatives. Also present were ambassadors, acting heads of diplomatic missions, heads of diplomatic missions, and representatives of international organizations in Vietnam.

At the closing session of the 14th National Congress, Le Quoc Minh, on behalf of the Secretariat, presented a report on congratulatory messages sent to the Congress by political parties, organizations, international friends, and overseas Vietnamese. Since the opening session, the Congress had received an additional 339 congratulatory letters and messages, including those from 58 political parties, 11 international and regional organizations, 62 individuals, 120 foreign people’s organizations and local authorities, and 88 associations of overseas Vietnamese.

On behalf of the Presidium and the entire Congress, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed sincere appreciation to political parties, organizations, international friends, and overseas Vietnamese for their warm congratulations to the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

On behalf of the Presidium, Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and Chairman of the National Assembly, reported the results of the elections of the Politburo, the General Secretary, the Secretariat, the Central Inspection Commission, and the Chair of the Central Inspection Commission. The 14th Party Central Committee unanimously elected To Lam, General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee, to continue serving as General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee.

The 14th Party Central Committee made its debut before the Congress. On its behalf, General Secretary To Lam delivered a statement.

The Congress presented flowers to acknowledge and express gratitude for the contributions of members of the 13th Party Central Committee who did not seek re-election to the 14th Party Central Committee.

On behalf of the Presidium, Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member of the 14th tenure and Permanent Member of the Secretariat, reported on the Presidium’s review, responses, and clarifications regarding opinions raised during discussions on the draft documents and the report reviewing the leadership and direction of the 13th Party Central Committee submitted to the 14th National Congress.

Pham Gia Tuc, Politburo member of the 14th tenure, Chief of the Party Central Office and Head of the Secretariat, presented the draft Resolution of the 14th National Congress. The Congress unanimously adopted the Resolution, with 100 percent of delegates voting in favor.

General Secretary To Lam presented the Closing Address of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam concluded with great success. The Congress called on the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire armed forces, as well as overseas Vietnamese compatriots, to further promote patriotism, civic responsibility, and aspirations for development. For every agency, unit, organization, and individual to begin with the most concrete tasks, contributing to the country’s steady progress day by day, to ensure that the people enjoy ever greater prosperity and happiness and to build a stronger Vietnam, standing shoulder to shoulder with the great powers of the world, as President Ho Chi Minh had always envisioned.
