MOIT steps up solutions to ensure power supply in 2026
Acting Minister Le Manh Hung chaired a meeting to deploy solutions ensuring electricity supply in 2026 and accelerating key power generation and grid projects.
On the afternoon of January 29, 2026, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Mạnh Hung chaired a meeting with energy groups and representatives of localities to review solutions and tasks to ensure electricity supply in 2026, set orientations for the 2027–2030 period, and accelerate the progress of key power generation and transmission projects.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long, representatives of departments under the Ministry, energy groups and corporations. At local connection points, leaders of provincial and municipal People’s Committees, along with relevant departments and agencies, also took part.
The meeting aimed to implement Prime Minister’s Directive No. 01/CT-TTg dated January 18, 2026, on tasks and solutions to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business activities and people’s daily lives during the 2026 peak period and the 2027-2030 period.
At the meeting, representatives of localities and energy groups updated the implementation progress of ongoing projects, focusing discussions on existing bottlenecks and proposing solutions to remove difficulties and promptly deploy power generation and transmission projects.

Based on reports and proposals raised at the meeting, Acting Minister Le Manh Hung highly appreciated the close coordination among localities, groups, enterprises and units under the Ministry in fulfilling the mission of ensuring energy security, including electricity supply in recent years, especially in 2025, amid increasingly extreme and unpredictable weather conditions.
Emphasizing the importance of energy security, particularly electricity supply security, and the implementation of Directive No. 01/CT-TTg, the Acting Minister stressed that this is a critically important political task of the Industry and Trade sector.
To enable units to proactively develop specific plans to meet electricity demand for socio-economic development and people’s lives in 2026, on November 28, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 3477/QĐ-BCT approving the National Power System Operation Plan (electricity supply and operation plan) for 2026.
Accordingly, the Acting Minister requested EVN and energy groups to coordinate with localities, the Electricity Authority and NSMO to calculate and forecast risks under each operation scenario in order to make timely adjustments, exercise control, and ensure the goal of avoiding electricity shortages.

For the 2027-2030 period, to proactively ensure electricity supply for production, business activities and socio-economic development goals, the Acting Minister requested relevant units to focus on synchronously implementing key tasks. He highlighted the need to develop clear and unified policy guidelines and legal interpretations for the implementation of power generation and transmission projects.
On that basis, units were urged to proactively forecast and propose necessary policies in advance, creating institutional momentum. At the same time, he directed a comprehensive review of synchronization between power sources, transmission and distribution systems, as well as adjustments related to administrative boundaries and planning, to recalibrate projects accordingly.
Regarding the management and implementation of the revised Power Development Plan VIII, the Acting Minister emphasized the need to build a synchronized management system and database between central and local levels. Local Departments of Industry and Trade were requested to closely coordinate with EVN in advising provincial People’s Committees on load balancing and mobilizing resources for projects serving socio-economic development. He also noted that coordination among ministries, sectors and localities should be further strengthened, particularly in communication on efficient and economical electricity use.
Reaffirming the political mission of ensuring energy security and electricity supply, Acting Minister Le Manh Hung called on localities, groups and enterprises to work together, thoroughly implement assigned tasks and solutions with a resolute spirit, stressing that electricity shortages must not be allowed to occur under any circumstances.
