At the meeting, An Giang authorities reported on the implementation status of power generation and transmission projects in the province under the revised Power Development Plan VIII. The Department of Industry and Trade, the Southern Power Corporation, and relevant agencies also reported on project progress, difficulties, and obstacles, and proposed solutions for removal.

In his directive remarks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long noted that Phu Quoc Special Zone is developing at an exceptional pace, emerging as a bright spot for investment attraction in the region. He emphasized that power infrastructure projects serving the APEC 2027 Summit in Phu Quoc constitute a task of exceptional political importance, requiring the electricity sector and local authorities to ensure that no electricity shortages occur under any circumstances.

To guarantee energy infrastructure for APEC 2027 and local residents, the Deputy Minister called on departments, agencies, and local authorities to proactively coordinate closely with the electricity sector to implement power generation and grid projects in a synchronized manner. He also urged priority development of renewable energy sources, with a focus on accelerating wind and solar power projects to supplement national energy supply.

He further stressed that procedures and documentation for key power projects must strictly comply with legal regulations, while research and proposals should be submitted to competent authorities for consideration and decision-making.

Receiving the Deputy Minister’s directives, Permanent Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong expressed the province’s hope that the Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with relevant ministries and agencies, will continue to pay close attention, strengthen coordination, and create favorable conditions for energy planning and infrastructure investment. He noted that this is a critical foundation for achieving breakthroughs in socio-economic development and moving toward double-digit economic growth in the coming period.

An Giang accelerates offshore and cross-sea grid upgrades

Under the adjusted National Power Development Plan for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (Power Development Plan VIII adjustment), An Giang Province is allocated a total generation capacity of 1,154.5 MW for the 2026 - 2030 period, including 456 MW of wind power, 520 MW of utility-scale solar power, 125 MW of biomass, and 49.5 MW of waste-to-energy.

In recent years, An Giang authorities have directed departments and localities to review and update the list of generation and transmission projects into the provincial planning framework for 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. The province has also developed an implementation plan for the adjusted Power Development Plan VIII.

According to provincial authorities, two biomass power projects with a combined capacity of 70 MW have received investment policy approval, including the An Giang 1 Biomass Power Plant (50 MW) and the Nui To I Biomass Power Plant (20 MW). These projects are currently undergoing investor selection through bidding procedures in accordance with regulations.

In addition, four wind and solar power projects with a total capacity of approximately 570 MW have attracted investor interest and proposals, including the Giang Thanh Aquaculture Solar Power Plant (400 MW), An Giang Solar Power Plant (80 MW), An Cu Solar Power Plant (40 MW), and An Giang 1 Wind Power Plant (50 MW).

According to the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), An Giang Province is supplied from the national grid via four 220 kV substations with a total installed capacity of 2,000 MVA. In addition, three solar power plants with a total capacity of 310 MWp are currently feeding electricity into the 110 kV grid.

EVNSPC is currently managing 28 substations with a total installed capacity of 2,048 MVA, comprising 46 transformers, along with three dedicated customer substations with a capacity of 170 MVA. The 110 kV transmission network includes 44 lines with a total length of 950.64 km.

EVNSPC is implementing the Phu Quoc 220 kV Substation project, with a scale of 2x250 MVA and a 2x19 km 220 kV transmission line connection, with total investment of VND 877 billion. This is a key project to convert the operating voltage level to 220 kV for the Kien Binh -  Phu Quoc transmission line, increasing supply capacity to 500 MVA.

Alongside this, the 110 kV Phu Quoc - Nam Phu Quoc transmission line project is being developed with a scale of 2x20 km (including 2.6 km of submarine cable), with total investment of VND 934 billion. The 110 kV Phu Quoc - Bac Phu Quoc transmission line project, with a scale of 2x21 km, has a total investment of VND 352.97 billion.

Previously, on May 13, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and the working delegation inspected several power infrastructure projects in the Phu Quoc Special Zone, including the Phu Quoc 220 kV Substation, the Phu Quoc - Bac Phu Quoc 110 kV Transmission Line, the Phu Quoc - Nam Phu Quoc 110 kV Transmission Line, and the 110 kV Bai Truong Substation.
